Clinical trials

All new treatments that are intended for human use be they pharmacological or technological, will have been validated through a rigorous clinical trials framework. For example, in oncology trials have been used to try out new therapeutic methods in radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgery, both in combination and isolation. More specifically, recent clinical trials in the areas of recombinant vaccination and monoclonal antibody therapy have demonstrated considerable success in the prevention of cervical cancer and the treatment of breast cancer respectively.

  • They are the most reliable way of testing new pharmaceuticals and medical devices
  • They help to establish the safety, efficacy and performance characteristics of these products
  • They are the most scientific and cost effective way of comparing new compounds and technologies against existing products.
  • They are an invaluable source of post-market surveillance data, generating key feedback that can help to identify additional user needs and extended product applications.
