CE Marking

A product shows its conformity to the appropriate device directive by using a Conformité Européenne (CE) mark. CE Marking can be described as a passport for the European marketplace; it allows the manufacturer to freely circulate their product throughout the whole of the European Economic Area (EEA).

Without a CE mark a product may not be placed on the market or put into service in the European countries that form the EEA. If a product does comply however, these countries may not prohibit, restrict or impede the placing on the market or putting into service of the product.

As such it can be seen that the CE mark can be considered as the product’s passport for Europe.
