Many people suffer from persistent or chronic pain, which is pain lasting for more than three to six months. This normally occurs after an injury, when the healing process has finished, or as part of a long term painful condition. Persistent or chronic pain can have a significant impact on quality of life, and can limit activities and confidence over time, especially if the level of pain increases. When medication and rest alone do not resolve the pain, there is a need to learn to manage the pain by other means.
The Managing Persistent Pain booklet and relaxation CD is a self help guide produced in collaboration with the Community Pain Management Team at The University Hospital of North Durham with input from patient groups. The team won a prize at the Bright ideas in health awards 2006 and they used their prize money to part fund the development of the booklet and CD.
The booklet and CD are designed to help overcome the impact of chronic or persistent pain on the lives of patients and help to create a sense of control over their situation.
The booklet and CD can be used by an individual but they are also designed to be used as a reference for those who work with people with chronic or persistent pain.
This approach to pain management could help to make radical improvements to a patient’s quality of life.
The booklet and CD are now available from our online store www.ennovations.co.uk
